This set of five tools is inspired by professional woodturner Andrew Hall (http://www.hallwoodhats.com) who specialises in turning hats.

Says Andrew:
"The main two gouges I use in turning hats are the 1/2” (12mm) and 3/8” (9mm) bowl gouges with swept back grinds - they are probably the two gouges that I could not do without. To complement them I also use a 3/8” (9mm) beading/skew/parting tool to cut the spigot accurately for re-turning.The splayed parting tool or fish tail parting tool as I call it for removing the ring of wood which makes a mirror and of course the famous Len Grantham small hollowing tool for topping out the hats. Tony and Barry Iles kindly lent me the Len Grantham tool as a substitute for a lance I broke whilst setting up a demonstration and now I use nothing else. This 'Mad Hatters Armoury' as I call it are the five tools I use to complete a hat."
